BARSTOW BATS are a 4 man Dumfries based band that include the line up of Andrew Rendall (guitar/vocals), Steven McKie (guitar/vocals), Barry Gemmell (bass/backing vocals), Jonny Tait (drums).
The popular local band have had a busy time over the last couple of years already opening the main stage at Wickerman Festival back in 2013, playing to a packed Comlongon Rocks, also back in 2013 and they headlined the Dumfries Music Conference, supported by Honeyblood & Hector Bizerk. In early 2014 they headlined the world famous King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow and finished off the festival season in style on the main stage of the inaugural Electric Fields Festival.
This August they launch their latest EP ‘Vixen’ and last week they unveiled the video

Steered by song writing duo Andrew Rendall and Steven McKie, and powered by the magnetic rhythms of Barry Gemmell (bass) and Jonny Tait (drums), the four piece know exactly where they’re going.
With all the steel and rootsiness you’d expect from a bunch of Scottish lads and the bohemian style you perhaps wouldn’t, their sound has influences from across the last 50 years. Yet there’s an undeniable and brilliantly stirring Barstow sound – that ranges from the irresistibly catchy to the enchantingly dark and distant.
The group, who signed to independent label Smart Indie mid 2013, released their debut E.P in December 2013. Label owners, Phil & Rob: “We were drawn to the quality of the song writing. Lennon and McCartney is perhaps a bit over the top but we definitely saw something in the McKie and Rendall partnership.”
It’s a partnership that can be traced back to the earliest school days – an understanding that’s grown on scrappy football pitches, across pub pool tables and in smoky rehearsal rooms. Gemmell and Tait, after the departure of Daniel Wynne to the cold oil fields of Northern Scotland are the perfect musical foil.
With a bagful of songs and maturity in their musicianship, the foursome have established themselves in a frighteningly short space of time.
