On Saturday in the Western Premier Reserve League, Dumfries 2nds, Nunholm, hosted their opponents Langloan, Drumpellier seconds at Nunholm. Meanwhile the Dumfries 1st XI away match at Drumpellier in the Western Premier League failed to start due to wet ground conditions.
In Dumfries, Langloan opted to bat first and Nunholm had an early success with Nagodavithana claiming an lbw. However that brought Keltie to the wicket for what was to be the most significant innings of the day. Telfer took a wicket in his first over and Goodin trapped the new batsmen lbw to make it 64 for 3. Nevertheless Keltie found a partner in Stevenson and, with a below par fielding performance not helping the bowlers, Langloan were able to take advantage. Keltie fell short of his century when he was bowled by Jones for 94, and McDonald contributed a further 55 before being caught off Fraser Strachan, as Langloan reached 259 for 5.
Nunholm were not able to get grips with the required run rate and although the top six all reached double figures the required big innings didn’t materialise as the side were all out for 136 in the final over. Connor Jones was the Bryce Walker Nunholm Man of the Match for his top score, and the best bowling performance, and keeper Reed’s catch taken standing up to Telfer was the fielding highlight for the Lakeland Fluid Power Champagne moment.
The Dumfries Sunday XI enjoyed a close match at Carlisle after setting a total of 141 for 6. Chris Taylor and Partick Corkery scored 45 and 36 respectively. The young Carlisle Academy side then reached that for five down with just over three overs left with Ronan Dunbar’s fine catch independently declared as Sunday’s GM Thomson & Co Champagne Highlight.
On Monday, Dumfries Colts travelled to play Langholm U15s. Dumfries set a total of 120 with Adam Malik top scoring for the Annandale Insurance Dumfries Man of the Match award. Langholm then managed to reach that with a few overs to spare despite wickets from Callum Reynolds-Lewis and Katy Anderson.
This Saturday, Stafforce Dumfries are away at Ferguslie in the Premier League and Nunholm play Meikleriggs at home. Dumfries Women play Galloway at home on Sunday and, also on Sunday, Dumfries’s Chris McBride is set for a Cup Final appearance for Durham U17s in their ECB National Cup Final against Surrey U17s with the 50 over match being played in Leicestershire.
