Halloween is here and the only place to be is conservation charity the National Trust for Scotland’s Threave Garden and Estate. A spooktacular time is promised for all the family on Friday 28 October, all inspired by the heritage and history of a traditional Scottish Halloween.
At Threave, there will be dookin’ for apples, a ghastly fancy dress competition, blood-curdling walks in the garden, a merry-go-round and a terrifying turnip lantern competition.
Plus, new for this year, the Haunted Threave House throws open its doors to share the secrets of an ancient curse and other ghostly stories.
Halloween at Threave Garden begins at 6pm on 28 October and finishes with a bang with a fabulous firework finale at 9pm.
Tickets for the event including Haunted House entry cost £8 per adult and £4 per child (ages 8 and over) and excluding Haunted House cost £2 per adult and £1 per child. Advance booking is advised – call 01556 502575.
Halloween at Threave Garden is produced by the National Trust for Scotland in partnership with Castle Douglas Development Forum. Parking at Threave is limited – but a free bus service runs from Castle Douglas.

Threave’s wonderful garden showcases different styles and is a fine example of landscaped beauty. Wander among the rockery, uncover the secret garden and take in the soothing sound of water sculptures. The wider estate caters for a more adventurous taste and includes our flagship bat reserve. Take a trail to spot these rare, beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. Guided tours can be booked in advance and make sure to save time for some freshly baked treats in the main Terrace Cafe or more intimate and quirky Stables Café.
