An unusual duet about the lies we tell each other and ourselves opens the November programme of Dumfries and Galloway Arts Live.
Physical theatre troupe, Company of Wolves, brings their mesmerising performance of A Brief History of Evil to Wigtown County Buildings on 4 November and the Theatre Royal, Dumfries on 5 November.
Created and performed by Ewan Downie and Jonathan Peck, the production has been described as “hilarious and mesmerising, terrifying and absurd”.
With humour and darkness, sorrow and light, Company of Wolves investigate what happens when we listen to the voices inside us, or not.
Scotland’s classical Indian dance company, Dance Ihayami, presents a brand new work entitled Silent Space to the Usual Place, Dumfries, on 15 November and A’ the Airts, Sanquhar, on 16 November.
Featuring an ensemble of exceptional dancers and a Scotland-based flautist Marion Kenny, Silent Space is an unforgettable spectacle of evocative rhythms, technical precision and striking geometry of Bharatanatyam, one of the oldest classical Indian dance forms. The performance will be followed by a short classical Indian dance workshop. Anyone is welcome to join in and try Bharatanatyam movements, hand gestures and facial expressions.
New theatre company Grist to the Mill bring their critically acclaimed production of The Unknown Soldier to Moffat’s Old Well Theatre on 10 November.
This new theatre piece is a story of comradeship, betrayal and of promises both broken and kept following the carnage of World War One.
The Unknown Soldier successfully debuted at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2015 as part of Spotlites’ season and received excellent reviews from critics. It was also shortlisted for the Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence.
On 17 November at the Crichton Memorial Church, Dumfries, Absolute Classics presents the London Soloists Ensemble for its November series.
Formed in 2011 by some of the UK’s most distinguished musicians, the London Soloists Ensemble — John Lenehan, piano; Karine Georgian, cello; and Lorraine McAslan, violin —have established themselves as a chamber group of superb quality.
Singer/songwriters Chris Wood and Sarah Jane Scouten will give a concert on 18 November at the Coach House, Craigdarroch Arms Hotel, Moniaive.
Chris Wood produces some of the most poetic work in contemporary songwriting today and, after his stunning set at last year’s Moniaive Folk Festival, the organisers have brought him back for a full evening concert to highlight his acclaimed word craft. Chris will be supported by Canadian musician Sarah Jane Scouten.
For the wee ones, The Shape of Things is an interactive story told through puppetry, object theatre, music and sound. Brought to the region by Starcatchers and Branar Téatar do Pháistí, The Shape of Things plays out at St Cuthbert’s Church Hall, Kirkcudbright, on 16 November; Thornhill Community Centre on 19 November; and Gracefield Arts Centre on 19 November.
