Wednesday saw the first Wigtownshire indoor athletics heat take place. 12 primary teams from across Wigtownshire arrived at the Ryan center, to compete for 2 places in the final due to be held in Dumfries in January 2017.
Each school had a team of girls and a team of boys who took part in 6 track and 6 field events across the space of the morning. All events were scored and the top two teams announced. All schools showed a huge amount of enthusiasm and skill and each event was highly contested.
It was a close battle for the top with 2 schools coming out join for 1st place. The full set of results can be seen below:

Both Penninghame and Sheuchan will represent Wigtownshire in January against other schools from across the region.
Chair of the Education Committee Councillor Jeff Leaver ‘said “The talent we have in this region is second to none and this event in Stranraer proves that, It’s great to see so many schools taking part in this event from across Wigtownshire. The morning was very well organised and all the children taking part seemed to be enjoying themselves and giving it their all for their school.’
