CONSUMERS ENCOURAGED TO MAKE HEARTY MEALS AT HOME

As the cold weather closes in, Scotch Butchers Club members from across the UK are sharing a range of hearty recipes set to inspire their customers to create wholesome dishes from the comfort of their home.

As part of the Quality Meat Scotland’s “Comfort Food” campaign, a range of new recipe cards, which showcase dishes which are perfect for winter nights, will encourage customers to cosy up with satisfying Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI and Specially Selected Pork.

Inspired by classic winter dishes and reflecting seasonal flavours, slow cooked favourites such as Scotch Beef Casserole and Specially Selected Pork Leg Hotpot are included alongside scrumptious contemporary dishes like the Tear and Share Filled Ciabatta and the Scotch Lamb Pasta Bake in these full-flavoured comfort food recipe cards.

Laurent Vernet, QMS Head of Marketing said: “The latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel show that slow cooking cuts are gaining in popularity. In the last 52 weeks, the volume of stewing beef purchased in retailers and butchers across Scotland increased by 7.9% and there has been an increase of 20.9% in under-45s buying stewing steak in Scotland.

“Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork really do make the perfect base for wholesome casseroles, curries and oven bakes, and this campaign demonstrates how you can enjoy comfort food that is not only delicious but also nutritious. With alternative serving suggestions and assorted accompaniments, our recipes are perfect for weeknight meals, whether you’re home alone or hosting your friends and family.”

Each dish which features on the recipe cards provides a satisfying meal, packed with nutritious ingredients. Scotch Beef and Lamb are good sources of protein, vitamins and minerals, while lean cuts of Specially Selected Pork are often lower in fat than a chicken breast, with more B-vitamins than many other meats.

The recipes also take into account those with busy lives and full dinner tables, with many of the dishes suitable for big serves and slow cookers.

The QMS Comfort Food recipe cards are available at over 200 Scotch Butchers Club shops across the UK. Butchers who are members of the Scotch Butchers Club source their Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork from suppliers who adhere to QMS’s Quality Assurance Scheme.
