Stranraer Drama Club Present ‘A Christmas Carol’

Well its Christmas time again, which means its Panto season! And Stranraer Drama Club are presenting their 48th Annual Pantomime this year. This year’s panto is a spooky yet funny and loveable tale where the villain is the main guy and he hates Christmas! If you haven’t guessed yet this year Stranraer Drama Club presents ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Producing the pantomime this year is first time producer Kyle Anderson, who at 22 is the youngest producer the drama club has had, Kyle has been in the club since 2011 and played such parts as Tinman in Wizard of Oz, Genie in the Mirror in Snow White, and last year played Peter Pan, however this year he takes on the role of the producer.

Alongside Kyle this year as a co-producer is Junior Club Member Ross Phillips (17) this is Ross’s first time taking a directive role in a show with the drama club, Ross who is studying Drama at College has been in the club from an early age. Ross has had so many parts over the years such as the Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream coat.

Stranraer Drama Club’s Pantomimes are a sell-out every year and this year the cast, crew and producers are hoping for no exception, this year we follow Scrooge the mean, cold-hearted miser who despises Christmas on a journey through time as he has a change of heart towards Christmas and the life of others Scrooge is played by John Crawfurd, who has been in the backstage department of the club creating and building sets for many years but has started taking on several acting roles such as Captain Hook in Peter Panto.

Along the way, Scrooge is joined by four ghosts who show him the error of his ways and teach him to change. The ghost of Jacob Marley scrooge’s former partner is played by Michele Keenan, who is relatively new the drama club, who has a chilling spooky story for scrooge. The ghost of Christmas past is an angelic character who is very soft and takes scrooge back to his past to discover where it all went wrong played by Lisa-Irvine Watson in her second performance with Stranraer Drama Club. The ghost of Christmas present an energetic, Christmas lover who shows scrooge the life he misses out on today is played by Neve Kinahan who has been a very strong junior in the club playing such parts as Snow White, Grace in Annie. And finally the ghost of Christmas future who shows the future for scrooge if he does not change his ways played by Bronagh Gibb.

The entire cast of around 60 people is accompanied by 10 Dancers who are choregraphed this year by two junior’s members of the club sisters Neve and Ashlyn Kinahan, aged 17 and 15, the two sisters have done a fabulous job with the Dancers. The band which remains the same are ready to perform some amazing songs to accompany the panto. And the costumes this year are primarily being led this year by Nicola Crawfurd and Audrey Buchanan who along with their helpers have done an amazing job in creating from scratch such amazing costumes.
