Depleted Stewartry Under 16’s Have Tough Game

Stewartry Under 16 Match Report Sunday 4th December

Stewartry 19 – Dalziel 26

Friendly Fixture

A tough task was set for the Under 16’s in the form of Brown Conference Champions Dalziel from Motherwell who have a huge pool of 37 players to select from and Stewartry with 5 regulars including the Captain short.

Dalziel with a much larger pack kept things in the forwards and scored a converted try in the first quarter.  Stewartry came back with a great try in the corner by the ever improving Gregor Todd, and five minutes later another was added by Archie Picken who also converted it.  Stewartry defended well to go in st half time leading 12-7.

Dalziel started the second half stronger with fresh players from the big squad and were soon in the lead 21-12.  They added another shortly after to take it to 26-12 but to their credit Stewartry fought back to make it 26-19 with a great team try scored by Ryan White and converted by Archie Picken.

Stewartry pressed forward with 3 minutes on the clock but unlike last week it was not to be.

Decision making and tactics needs to be worked on over the next few weeks but some great improvements in tackling and defence this week.  Best on the day for Stewartry was the tough tackling Tom Allan.  Next up premier 1 side Curries Under 16 Team at home again.  Should be a great game after losing narrowly to them last season.
