The Holywood Trust has awarded NHS Dumfries and Galloway a generous sum towards art works for the new hospital. The new pieces will enhance the building making it a reassuring and uplifting environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The award funds a specific project that brings young artists from the region on board to create art for ‘staying and waiting’ areas in the new hospital. This will complement other projects within the Art Strategy; including imagery of Dumfries and Galloway landmarks throughout the building, and a collection taken from the existing art works in DGRI.
Jeff Ace, Chief Executive, NHS Dumfries and Galloway said:
“We are absolutely delighted with The Holywood Trust’s award. This makes it possible for us to commission innovative and thought provoking works of art for the new hospital. We are committed to ensuring the art works displayed throughout the building are of a sensitive nature, and play a part in the overall well being of patients, staff and visitors.”
Karen Ward Boyd, Director, The Holywood Trust said:
“The Trust is pleased to support this art work commission within the new hospital development as it offers specific opportunities for three young emerging artists from Dumfries and Galloway to gain valuable experience of the process required to create work for the healthcare sector. The artists are being mentored by ‘Dress for the Weather’, a creative organisation which is very experienced in this area of work.”
