A MAJOR joint rescue operation took place today after a large fishing Vessel ran aground south of Kirkcudbright RNLI Lifeboat station. The Vessel called ‘Accord’ (based in Killkeel Ireland) ran aground at 02.30am this morning,Friday 31 March 2017.
The crew of Five that were on board were rescued from the troubled boat by lifeboats from Kirkcudbright, Portpatrick and Workington in a joint rescue oporation coordinated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. D&G Council assisted in the rescue.
A spokeperson for the council stated: “We have arrangements in place for scenarios such as this, and these have been implemented.”
Holes to the hull of the vessel were assessed before the rescue and repairs to seal them were carried out. There was NO leakage of fuel oil from the troubled boat reported.
The Accord’ was then refloated and towed by lifeboats into Kirkcudbright harbour.
