Runner Up Position For Stewartry Under 16′ At Dalziel Tournament

Stewartry Rugby Club Under 16′ had a superb day last weekend at the Dalziel RFC Tournament, Motherwell, to end another great season for this squad of players who now move on to the Under 18 Team for season 2017-2018.

Lenzie withdrew from the competition at the last minute and the hosts Dalziel/Strathaven with a large pool of players opted to keep their squad as one team which allowed them to put on fresh players as the tournament progressed.  Stewartry got off to their customary slow start and lost to the hosts by two tries to no reply.  However this seemed to be the boost they needed to kick start them off and they won all their other games and beat the hosts at the second time of asking.

Man of the match had to be Stewartry’s Scottish Under 16 Squad cap Joseph Strain who showed great flair, skill, speed, strength and fitness right through the tournament.  However all credit to the rest of the squad who put in a great shift and were unlucky not to win the tournament, but were rewarded with the runners up slot.

Very well done to Finnan Brown who had a great tournament in his first start at Scrum Half and young Luke Thomson at Full Back who will be one to watch in next years under 16 team.
