Croma Vigilant Dumfries 306 for 4 v Hillhead CC 127 for 9
Overseas signing Josh Forsyth had fun in the sunshine smashing big sixes around the ground and over the houses as Croma Vigilant Dumfries amassed a huge total which was too much for the visitors to Nunholm.
A careful start to the innings by Andrew Dawson and David Davidson saw the scoreboard total continue to tick over, however when Dawson was dismissed by a delivery by Khan which sneaked through bat and pad and dribbled onto the stumps bought Josh Forsyth to the crease. Forsyth wasted no time in familiarising himself with the Nunholm wicket dismissing bowlers to the all parts of the boundaries. Forsyth celebrated his rapid 50 with a huge six which not only cleared the boundary, but also the houses which surround the ground. There was a five minute delay as players and supporters searched for the ball in a nearby cul-de-sac in between parked cars. David Davidson was slightly more watchful as he passed his 50, but eventually fell for 80, bowled by Mehmood. Josh Forsyth retired after striking some balls high in the air and encouraging the Hillhead fielders to catch me if you can, they could not, and Forysth returned to the clubhouse 82 not out. However Niall Alexander picked up where Forsyth left off with his waving his bat like a raging inferno and blasted a 32 ball half century. The 40 overs came to an end and Croma Vigilant Dumfries had set Hillhead 306 to win.
The batters had done their job and bowlers were required to deliver in the second half of the match. The opening bowlers of Stuart Alexander and Robert Huxtable kept the pressure on the Hillhead, and it was Stuart Alexander who made the break through dismissing Tervet for just 7 caught by captain Stuart Corbett-Byers and probably cast away any doubt that Croma Vigilant would go on to win this preseason fixture. Niall Alexander came on and whilst his radar was slightly off in the early overs, his pace was too quick for the Hillhead batsmen, picking up two wickets in a short spell. The wicket was dry and dusty and Captain Corbett-Byers turned to Trevor Newport and he did not let him down. There were limited opportunities for the Hillhead players to make big shots, and the pressure told, as Newport picked up 2 wickets for minimal runs.
Hillhead were never really in the contest, and Croma Vigilant Dumfries went on to win at a canter. The western premier league begins next week and most players at the club have had a good run out during the preseason.
