NHS Dumfries and Galloway join national Volunteer Week (1-7 June 2017) celebration to highlight the huge contribution made by volunteers’ across Dumfries and Galloway.

On Thursday 1 June 2017 the Volunteer Co-ordinator for NHS Dumfries and Galloway, Margaret McGroggan welcomed newly recruited volunteers (pictured) on a training induction day.  In addition, as part of the campaign to recruit more volunteers as services relocate to the new hospital, a Volunteer Recruitment Day has been arranged on 30 June 2017 at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Margaret McGroggan, Volunteer Coordinator for NHS Dumfries and Galloway said:

“We are looking for suitable volunteers to become Welcome Guides and Ward Volunteers.  These are key volunteering roles with activities including meeting and greeting patients and visitors and enhancing the patients’ experience by chatting with them and helping reduce isolation and loneliness.”

During National Volunteers Week we will celebrate the wide-ranging achievements from volunteers across Great Britain.  Whether working to improve the local environment, spending time with people who need help, or providing other kinds of essential services and support which makes invaluable differences to the lives of people and communities.

Welcome Desk Volunteers Jenny Clark, Maureen Branney and Molly Geddes agreed:

“Being volunteers gives us a lot of personal satisfaction to be able to help members of the public.  We feel really appreciated by the public for all our support which makes volunteering worthwhile.”

Margaret added:

On behalf of the Health Board I would like to thank all our volunteers from the new recruits to those that have volunteered with us for many years.  You are appreciated and you are making a significant difference.”
