The CX Project has supported businesses in Annandale and Eskdale with business start-up and growth since September 2011, having secured funding from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Socio-Economic Fund and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
The project aims to provide area specific and intensified business support in Annandale and Eskdale to help boost the local economy affected by the de-commissioning of Chapelcross Nuclear Power Station.
To mark the fifth year of the project, businesses supported by the project were celebrated at a recent awards evening in the Gables Hotel in Gretna. Awards were made for;

Colin Smyth, Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Economic, Environment and Infrastructure Committee presented the CX Project Special Award won by James Ewart Racing from Langholm. Councillor Smyth said;
“The CX Project has been a resounding success and the achievements of local businesses should be recognised and celebrated. The number one priority of our Council is to build the local economy and projects like the CX Project prove that our Council, in partnership with stakeholders like NDA and Magnox Limited can really help drive economic success.”
John Grierson, Chapelcross Closure Director opened the evening and presented the award to overall winner Creatomatic from Annan. John said;
“The excellent partnership between Dumfries and Galloway Council, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Magnox Limited has provided a route for local people to achieve their goals and business objectives through a network of support including funding and business planning advice and support. I’m delighted to be here this evening to celebrate the success of our local businesses.”
Other category winners included Half-Goat Leatherwork – Award for Export and Champion Young Entrepreneur; Best Employer – Creatomatic; Innovation – Border Tablet; and Most Promising Business won by Annan Travel.
Runners up certificates were presented to RJP Millinery, JKM Business Services and Shawbrae Knitwear and finalist certificates presented to A1 Graphics and Applications, Angels Gym, Room 33, Callum Laird Graphic Design and Rory Laycock Artist.
