This year’s Fairtrade Fortnight theme is ‘Sit down for Breakfast; Stand Up for Farmers’.
Dumfries and Galloway Councillors have been sampling and enjoying a wide range of products. Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar is served in the Council venues where Committee meetings are held, and other work is also on-going (including setting up a Regional Network and finding a Flagship Employer) to ensure that our application to be a Fairtrade Zone is complete by April 2016.
Councillor Colin Smyth, Fairtrade Champion said: “Fairtrade Fortnight is an important opportunity to raise the profile of fair trading. As a rural area, we know the importance of farmers getting a fair price for what they produce. That principle applies across the world. By the simple act of buying Fairtrade products we can all make a contribution to that work. And of course we get to enjoy great food and drink too!”
