Magnox Grant Supports Local Business

Magnox and Dumfries and Galloway Council are delivering the Annan and DG12 Small Business Grant Scheme.

One of the first successful applications was Bouldover Climbing Centre in Annan. This exciting new facility was built during 2020 the Bouldover Climbing Centre provides a climbing facility for climbers in Dumfries and Galloway. The centre comprises of 400 square meters of climbing space and caters for all ages and abilities.

The Centre has been designed and built by passionate and enthusiastic climbers, together with one of the market leading industry manufacturers, each section caters perfectly for all requirements. Experienced climbers can refine their skills on our lead walls and improve strength and core training in our extensive bouldering area. New climbers of all ages can learn in a safe and fun environment accompanied by our qualified instructors.
The Centre also includes a relaxed cafe, changing facilities, and an area for under 7s to have their first safe taste of the climbing world.

The Magnox Annan and DG12 grant for £5,000 was spent on equipment for the facility, signage and specialist staff training.

The Annan & DG12 Small Businesses Grant Scheme offers a discretionary grant of up to £5,000 to SMEs within Annan & DG12 post code area. The purpose of which is to support and stimulate the local economy and assist with the generation of employment thus ensuring long term business sustainability.

The grant scheme will contribute a maximum grant of 50% of the eligible project costs. This level of funding is specific to each application and individual considerations.

Sean Marshall, Chair of Annan Regeneration Steering Group, who sits on the Annan & DG12 Grants Panel on behalf of Magnox Limited said: “What a fantastic new recreational facility for Annan which can be enjoyed by both youngsters and adults alike within the local area, but will no doubt also attract visitors into Annan to boost the local economy. This new venture has already created 14 new full-time and part time local jobs and I wish everyone at Bouldover Climbing Centre continued success with this exciting new venture.”
Andy Weeks, owner of Bouldover said: “The support from Magnox’s DG12 Small Business Grant Scheme was an early boost to our Capital funding and invaluable in allowing us to purchase specialist equipment for our facility. The amount of interest and support from the local community has been more than we could’ve hoped for. We look forward to a bright future supporting the people of Annan and the surrounding Dumfries and Galloway region. Eligible Projects
• Marketing and E-business initiatives to increase sales in the area and/or attract additional visitors to the area. This can include the design and production of promotional material, investment in E-business projects or bespoke solutions. IT hardware, in any guise will only be eligible as part of a broader E-business development.
• Procurement of manufacturing and other equipment as part of business improvement and expansion planning. (Routine replacement or repair will not be eligible for support.)
• Selection and procurement of specialist consultancy and training – this will exclude meeting regulatory or legislative requirements.
• Improvements to supply and production processes.
• Working capital expenditure including running costs, staff costs and purchase of stock is not eligible
