South Scotland MSP Emma Harper has praised the work of local pottery business Mossyard Pottery owner Amy McConchie, on her outstanding work and ambitious plans for the future.
Ms Harper visited Mossyard at the end of August (Friday 28 August) to hear about the work Amy is carrying out – engaging with families, community groups, local schools and holiday makers – to craft, create, paint and model pottery pieces which are kiln dried and moulded on site.
On the visit, the South Scotland MSP was able to hear about the future plans of the business which is soon to take up permanent residence at the Johnstone School development in Kirkcudbright.
Commenting, Ms Harper said:
“I was pleased to be able to visit Amy at Mossyard Pottery where she has been carrying out pottery moulding, painting and crafting classes since 2010. The works of art which I was able to see first hand were highly impressive, as was Amy’s commitment to the business which – since reopening after the lockdown restrictions were eased – has been extremely busy with local families and holiday makers trying out the craft.
“The ambitious plans Amy has for the future are both exciting and promising. Amy is soon to take up permanent residence at the new Johnstone School development in Kirkcudbright and she has lots of exciting plans for family, community and young people engagement.
“Evidence has shown that pottery and craft type activities can be beneficial to mental health, and I look forward to being able to help Amy reach out to many communities and groups across our region – as well as to taking forward some of the action items we agreed on the visit.
“I wish Amy every success for the future and would encourage anyone interested – whether experienced or not – to go along and give painting pottery a try.”
