Newton Stewart To Lose It’s Royal Bank Of Scotland Branch – October

Sad News for the busy market town of Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway today as it has been announce that the towns RBS Bank is to close later on this year in October 2017.

A spokesman from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) who are closing 30 branches, which also owns the NatWest who are also closing a further 128 branches across the country, said: “We have taken the difficult decision to close the Newton Stewart Branch on October 9th, 2017.”
He continued “The way people choose to bank with us has changed radically over the last few years. “Between 2010 and 2015, mobile and online transactions have increased by over 400% and mobile transactions alone have increased by 1,350%.
As part of the changes the bank is creating a total of 50  “community-bankers”, serving in the community and surrounding areas mostly in rural parts of the UK. Community Bankers will provide  help to our customers who cannot reach branches. They will be able to work flexibly to support customers, including holding customer appointments in community locations and at customer homes where necessary.”

This now leaves customers in Newton Stewart with their nearest branch at  Stranraer which is around 25 miles away.
