Success For First South Of Scotland Internet Of Things Virtual Event

Over 100 people from across the South of Scotland took part in the region’s first virtual event focussing on the Internet of Things technology.

Bringing Internet of Things into the South of Scotland webinar saw a total of eight speakers including industry experts, communities, businesses and organisations from across Scotland share their experiences of Internet of Things (IoT).

IoT enables devices, such as everyday objects, machinery and systems to connect to the internet. The data gathered can then be used to inform, develop and shape future plans and processes.

The free webinar was hosted jointly by South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) and the Scottish Government and supported by CENSIS and North and aimed to highlight how IoT can help businesses and organisations identify and mitigate risks, maximise opportunities and become more productive, efficient and competitive.

On the back of the virtual event, business and organisations in the South of Scotland are being invited to attend one of six Explore IoT sessions taking place in June.

These sessions last for 30 minutes each and have been developed to offer an initial meeting to companies and organisations who feel they could benefit from a deeper discussion on how IoT could help them.

Jane Morrison-Ross, Chief Executive of SOSE, said:

“I must thank everyone who attended the first Bringing the Internet of Things into the South of Scotland webinar.
“We had a fantastic range of speakers, who I must also thank for giving up their time and sharing their experiences of IoT. We had a great turnout of attendees and some excellent feedback has been received.
“I would encourage any businesses or organisations interesting in finding out how IoT could help them to sign up to one of the Explore IoT sessions.
These meetings will focus on challenges faced and assess how IoT technology might be able to support strategic solutions.”

Colin Cook, Director Digital at the Scottish Government, added:

It was great to hear the enthusiasm and energy there is around the Internet of Things (IoT).
“We know IoT provides huge opportunities for the South of Scotland.
“Digital technologies and ways of working such as IoT are key to the renewal and growth of Scotland’s economy and the ‘Explore IoT’ sessions provide a great way to find out more about this exciting area.”

To sign up to one of the Explore IoT sessions, please contact Justine Leuty, Economic Infrastructure Project Manager, South of Scotland Enterprise via [email protected] (headline email – FAO Justine Leuty ‘Explore IOT sessions’) by 5pm on Tuesday 1 June.
