I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this vibrant community and to support the BDA’s vital work. About the British Deaf Association (BDA)

Founded in 1890, the British Deaf Association (BDA) is a registered charity in England, Wales, and Scotland. It is the only Deaf-led organisation representing the Deaf community, with two main aims:

  • The promotion of British Sign Language (BSL).
  • The right to bilingual education.

The BDA advocates for Deaf Equality, Access, and Freedom of Choice, ensuring Deaf people can lead independent lives and make informed decisions. Deaf individuals can achieve anything a hearing person can—they simply use a different language to do so.

The BDA champions the rights of Deaf people to use their first language, British Sign Language, a fully distinct language from spoken English.
