Annan Blanket Appeal Aims to Help Vulnerable & Elderly Stay Warm This Winter

DGWGO recently went along to meet Heather and Rachel who run  ‘Our Wee Pop Up Shop’ at The Courtyard in Annan.

Heather and Rachel recently launched an appeal to help members of their community stay warm this winter.

Heather said “So we have our wee shop, called our wee pop-up shop and because we love the community we live in we thought it would be a good idea to do a lap blanket appeal for the elderly and vulnerable in the community.

Wool donations welcome

So six weeks ago, we put out an appeal for wool and then subsequently knitters or crafters in general. We’ve now raised 107 blankets towards the 132 that Food Train have requested us to donate.”

Do you knit, crochet or sew?

“If they’re able to donate wool that would be marvellous but if they’re crafters, sewers, or crocheters, we’ve even got some quilted blankets. If they’re able to make anything like that, that would help our appeal and then help us get more out into the community for the vulnerable or the elderly.”

“All 132 people on Food Train’s books will be getting the opportunity to get a blanket.”

“We have contacted Annan Day Centre, but you can also contact our Facebook page for our wee pop-up shop or Kirk Soaps and More and we can liaise with you and get blankets out to anybody in the community that might be missed or needs to be reached.”

Heather added “Our wee pop-up shop is up the lane beside Cafe Royal, you’ll find First Ben’s Boots and Bobbins then the yarn and wool shop followed by Our Wee Pop Up shop with a bright yellow door.”
