Caring Rhonwen Celebrates Course Success

A care student at Dumfries and Galloway College is celebrating the completion of her successful apprenticeship placement.

Foundation Apprenticeship Social Services and Healthcare student, Rhonwen Paterson, completed the placement at Bankfoot House in Moffat as part of her course.

Working under the experienced and helpful guidance of staff at the care home, Rhonwen gained many useful insights into the practical side of working in care which has helped inform her future career choices.

Rhonwen now plans to study to be a paramedic at Queen Margaret University.

She also expressed her gratitude to the local NHS, both for providing her with the opportunity to develop her skills and for their work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dumfries and Galloway College, under the leadership of Principal Joanna Campbell, has been working closely with the local health service throughout the crisis, providing resources, expertise, and staff to assist with the fight against the virus across the South of Scotland.

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“Rhonwen has done very well throughout her course and her successful completion of her placement is further proof of this.

“Bankfoot House is a wonderful facility and we’re proud to have had one of our students work there to gain the practical experience needed to embark on a rewarding career in care.

“Dumfries and Galloway College is dedicated to being a proactive player in our region and to ensuring that it has the skills, resources, and education it needs to thrive, both during the current pandemic and into the future.”
