Castle Douglas Joins The Mens Shed Movement

Castle Douglas Development Forum sub committee, The Futures Team, has secured a premises in town for a Mens Shed. Recognised for their contributions to communities in addition to the no pressure social environment where anything goes, within Health & Safety guidelines! Members are known to benefit by socialising in a safe space where stuff happens. Having started in Australia the mens shed movement in D&G now has 10 sheds and over 300 shedders. The only pre requisite for membership is having time on your hands.

The Forum has secured a lease from the Fullarton Theatre for the old Unity Players building at Blackpark and a potential outstation for “drive in” and large projects at Carlingwork House. Every shed has its own personality and interests range from car maintenance to upholstery. The Forum is keen to see a high level of interest and support and look forward to increasing community engagement from the shedders efforts, equipment and resources through this project. Support has been offered from neighbouring sheds and by adopting established structures, operating rules and guidelines a quick launch and set up will be possible and painless. All that is needed is enthusiasm and the rest will follow.
To launch the shed project the Forum invites all interested parties, and yes that includes the ladies, to a meeting at the British Legion on the Market Hill on the 10 April at 19.00 with a view to appointing an initial launch team.
