Dance The Distance for The Vault – Newton Stewart

On Sunday 2nd June dancers from Emma Louise Dance Club and Popdance Fit, Isle of Whithorn participated in Dance The Distance to raise funds for The Vault Arts Centre, Newton Stewart run by Trad Music Trust.

Dance The Distance, created by EMD UK, is a unique event which takes participants on an inspirational dance fitness journey. Kirsten, Lesley, Joan, Hilary & Emma danced and shimmied their way through the step and calorie equivalent of a 5km run.

Dance the Distance event was organised by Emma Abel (Emma Louise Dance Club Principal) to raise funds for The Vault Arts Centre. To date the dancers have raised £428.20 on behalf of Emma Louise Dance Club for the Trad Music Trust. The funds contribute towards a £15,000 goal set by Trad Music Trust for the new arts centre is based in the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Victoria Street in Newton Stewart. The building was vacated by the bank in 2017 and has remained empty since.

Nathon Jones (Trad Music Trust Project Coordinator and Festival Director), explained The Vault will be a base of operation for Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival, as well as a much needed community arts space offering a year-round programme of traditional music, dance, language and arts performances, tuition and exhibitions. The centre will also be available for hire, providing local groups, clubs, organisations, businesses and individuals with a first-class venue for their own events, activities, parties and special occasions.

Emma Louise Dance Club has been delivering dance classes for children and adults in Newton Stewart and Minnigaff since 2007. Emma is delighted The Trad Music Trust is designing the interior of The Vault Arts Centre with the need for correct equipment and flooring for dance in mind. The correct equipment and flooring is essential for safe, high quality dance instruction. The Vault will provide a much needed space for dance classes, workshops and events when it opens to local community.

The Trad Music Trust & Emma Louise Dance Club would like to thank everyone who participated in Dance The Distance or made a donation to the fundraising campaign. Your support is greatly appreciated.
