Christmas is a time when feelings of loneliness, depression and anxiety can be overwhelming – not least because of the pressure to be happy and merry. Last year, on Christmas Day alone, Samaritans responded to over 10,000 calls for help.
This has been a year like no other. Many people will be feeling even more isolated at Christmas due to social distancing. They may have lost a loved one to coronavirus, or feel anxious in these uncertain times. For many people struggling to cope, we will be the only lifeline open when many other services are closed.
Every call we answer could be the one that saves or changes someone’s life.
Dumfries Samaritans appeal to you to help us continue our work on the national helpline, as well as within Dumfries & Galloway. Our capacity has been reduced during the pandemic, and we have incurred additional expenses to make our base in Loreburn St in Dumfries a safe and socially distanced place, both for our current volunteers and to train new ones
By supporting us this Christmas you’re helping make sure we’re there to listen, when someone needs us most. You’re helping us answer their call or reply to their email so they know they’re not alone. Your support today can help them change their story.
