Adam MacKeller is a Design and Technology teacher at St Joseph’s College in Dumfries who is a member Dumfries Running Club. For 10 days on the trot Adam will be running the distance of a marathon on a 4 mile loop in Dumfries.
Adam told DGWGO “Always a keen runner and often looking to improve my performances. Last season form from me has seen me running faster and further than I ever have. This has been a yearly improvement I have seen over the last three years. Through grit and determination 2024 seen me running nearly 300 miles further than any other year, a total of 1200 miles. The hard work paid off and this reflected in running personal bests at almost all regular distances that I race and competing well at club level.
In November I attended a speakers night that was hosted by the club and offered some inspirational words of wisdom from Nikki Spinks and Chris Thomson both incredible ultra runners in their own right. It was here that plan was formed, giving me the opportunity to hang up the racing shoes for a while and an opportunity to give something back. This though a different prospect than hunting PBs. An endurance test to see what I can really push my body to do. My plan with the help of friends, family and public support is to run 10 Marathons in 10 days.
I will be doing this locally round a small loop of the Nith, starting across from Knox Sports, traveling down through Dock Park to The Swan and back via the cycle path crossing the Kirkpatrick MacMillan bridge, then running on the opposite side of the Sands and then back across at the Buccleugh Bridge and back to the start. It works out to be just over 4 miles long so the route will then be repeated 6 times. This will offer plenty of opportunities to watch and cheer me on. There are a number of support runners joining me via the running club and my work colleague’s. However if anyone would like to join me everyone’s welcome.
My training is well underway and since the beginning of January I have covered nearly 400 miles of running. This comes with its challenges in itself, one in avoiding injury, keeping the carbs building and recovery, meaning I also need a few dips in the ice bath.
This all has no other purpose than to raise money for a worthy cause. I am raising funds for Cash for kids, the charity benefits many our young people and their families. So far, I have raised just over £1000 pounds and I am overwhelmed by the response to date.
I would like to thank my family, Dumfries Running Club, Rebecca Queen head of PR, local business sponsors, Knox Sports, Monaghans Jewellers, The Swan and Just a Little Bit training wear.
Come and support my runs with the first coming on the 4th of April 2025.
