11 year old Gatehouse of Fleet girl Erin is busy tackling a step challenge to raise funds for The 3rs horse rescue centre, which is very close to her heart.
Erin told DGWGO Recently “I enjoy doing charity work and volunteering at the 3rs horse rescue center. The 3rs horse rescue center was originally set up in 2016 to help animals that need a home, they used to just take horses but as time went on they started to take different animals like donkeys, chickens, ducks, turkeys, emu’s, guinea pigs and some rabbits.
On a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for people with additional needs like me, you can go up and learn how to look after all the different animals, mostly horses, the ones that are capable and would like to ride can sometimes ride the horses too.
The centre also has different jobs for volunteers around the yard and up at the arena, they also do groups at the weekend for children and adults to volunteer to help and learn how to work and look after horses. There are around 97 Horses and Donkeys, and they have to raise money to look after them.
Since joining the 3Rs it has made me really enjoy the outdoors and helping make fun fundraising projects to help with my home learning. Going down to the 3rs has really improved my confidence levels.
I have previously done two other fundraising projects, my first one was to walk 3 miles every day in December, I raised £155 for that one and the second one was a raffle to win a 3 night stay in my mum’s holiday let Ramerish Retreat, which raised £1001.
During July I am doing a step challenge which you can all join in with, you can choose to do, 5000, 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 steps a day and you can ether donate yourself or collect sponsor money from others.
