£384 Thousand Lottery Funding Given to Redevelop Park in Lochside Dumfries

Dumfries and Galloway Council has been awarded a massive £384k from the National Lottery Community Fund to redevelop Glentrool Park in Lochside in Dumfries.

The Council has been working with local community partners over the last four years developing and shaping the plans with the local community through the National Lottery funded Our Place programme. There have been information events, surveys and planning meetings to now reach the stage where we will see the redevelopment of play and recreational facilities in the park including pump track, new play area, MUGA, nature garden and improved paths. Several community and youth work sessions will also be held in the park each year thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund grant.

Maureen McGinn, National Lottery Community Fund Scotland Chair, said;

“I am delighted that Dumfries and Galloway Council has been successful in securing a National Lottery Community Fund grant. The funding will make a big difference where it is needed most and I wish the Council and Glentrool Park partners every success as they go on to develop and expand this project for the benefit of their local community.”

Councillor Andy Ferguson, Communities Committee Chair said;

“This is absolutely super news for Lochside and North West Dumfries. Our Council is committed to enhancing our parks and open spaces. Earlier this year the National Lottery Community Fund awarded £375k for Popeye’s Park in Lincluden, and now £384k for Glentrool Park. I can’t thank enough the hard work of the local community who have worked tirelessly on community engagement, planning and design over the last four years. Also, a huge thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund for investing in North West Dumfries.”

Dean Goddard, Glentrool Park Steering Group Chair said;

“This is fantastic news. The community steering group has been working so hard over the last few years, and all our hard work has been realised. We are so pleased that our community will benefit from a pump track, new play area, MUGA, nature garden and improved paths.”

Councillor John Martin, Communities Vice-Chair said;

“The National Lottery Community Fund Our Place programme has invested over £1.5M in North West Dumfries over the last four years in community facilities, community arts, sport and parks. We are so pleased to have supported the work of the Our Place programme, and to help achieve the great ideas of our communities.”
