The Build Begins For Inclusive Play In The Heart Of Dumfries

Work began this week on Catherine Street inclusive park and community garden. Managed by local charity, Include Us, the park aims to be accessible to the whole community.

The park has been designed to offer better accessibility with safe pathways, sociable seating and imaginative and inclusive play equipment with space for activities and storytelling. A community garden complete with sensory planting, raised beds and newly planted, native trees will also feature within the Catherine Street site.

Dr Andy Zieleniec, Chair of Include Us said: “We are delighted to bring wheelchair accessible play equipment to the centre of Dumfries but it’s important to explain that Catherine Street park is not just a disabled play park. The vision for the space is for it to be a shared community space for everyone, regardless of age or ability”.

The park is expected to be ready to open in early November with community activities planned to welcome everyone to the new, inclusive community space.

The Include Us team are looking for volunteers to help support the upkeep of the park and the delivery of community activities and would invite anyone interested to contact them. Contact details and park build updates are available on the “Catherine Street Inclusive Play Park” Facebook page or the charity’s website
