LIFT D&G gets set to launch The Cabin – an inclusive and welcoming space for the community in Lochside, northwest Dumfries. To mark the beginnings of its journey as a transformed portacabin made for the community, LIFT D&G will host a Community launch Event on October 26th at the site of the portacabin on Dunlop Road.
Since the project’s inception in 2020, LIFT D&G has been working together with Lochside
communities and The Stove, through the What We Do Now network (WWDN) to co-design and develop the portacabin. The Cabin is now a place to gather and participate in a range of activities from creative workshops, skills development and community consultations.
Angela Gilmour, Managing Director of LIFT D&G said:
“We’re thrilled to welcome the public to The Cabin. I can’t wait to see the positive impact this creative space will have on our community.”
The project has received significant local and national support including Wheatley Homes South who donated the portacabin and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK.
Graham Rooney of The Stove acknowledged the collective effort involved:
“It’s been a long but rewarding journey to bring The Cabin to life. We couldn’t have achieved this without the invaluable support of Wheatley Homes South, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scottish Water, SP Energy Networks, Octopus Energy, Jackie Connelly, and of course, the wonderful support from the residents of Lochside.”
In addition to LIFT’s program of activities, local artists Alice Francis and Rosie Giblin will be
launching a year-long initiative called ArtLab, funded by Creative Scotland. This programme will build on the community-led creative work established in recent years through the What We Do Now network.
Join LIFT D&G in the exciting new chapter for Lochside.
