Local Churches are being advised to adhere to Government advice to cancel church worship services in a concerted effort to keep the community safe.
Clerk to the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright, Rev Donald Campbell and minister of St George’s Church, Dumfries confirmed: “In line with the guidance from the Church of Scotland nationally and the Government, the difficult but necessary decision has been taken to advise all congregations to cancel church worship services with immediate effect. This approach is consistent with the position taken by the Church of Scotland, Church of England and other church denominations in an effort to ensure as far as possible that we keep our communities safe.
This is a challenging time for everyone and all ages and backgrounds in our community. It will be for us as ministers, elders and church members to find innovative ways to ensure that the spiritual welfare of all experiencing this crisis is maintained and at the same time, doing everything we can to lessen the impact of the virus.
I anticipate individual churches will explore how they can best deliver the pastoral care most suited to their community. It is important that we take a responsible and pragmatic approach in line with Government advice. Above all, as a faith community, we all pray for a resolution to the crisis, but in particular, we pray for all those affected in whatever way by Covid 19 and for all those individuals and organisations working in the frontline to lessen its impact”
