Loreburn Housing Association Care and Repair Across Dumfries and Galloway

The Loreburn Housing Association’s aim is to allow people to remain living at home independently and safely, with confidence and dignity.  The Care and Repair team offers free, confidential, independent advice to clients, assisting them to carry out disabled adaptations to their homes.

This not only benefits the client, but it helps sustain communities and can assist in the reduction of hospital / care home admissions.  The service is managed by Loreburn Housing Association and is a natural fit to the aims and values of the Association.

Jane Glanville, Care and Repair Team Leader for Loreburn Housing said “We are a team of friendly, dedicated staff who are passionate about delivering good outcomes for our clients.
The typical types of work we carry out are wet floor / level access showers, ramps, curved stairlifts, through the floor stair lifts and external step lifts.”

Who can benefit from this service?

We support older people over the age of 65 and disabled people of any age, who are home owners or tenants of private landlords throughout Dumfries and Galloway.  We aim to provide information, advice and support on the financial assistance available to support major adaptations working to meet all the statutory requirements for this.

How do you get referred to Care and Repair?

If you think you, or someone you know, would benefit from any of the above adaptations then you should contact the Occupational Therapy Department on 0303 333 3001 and they will arrange to come to your home to carry out as assessment.  If you meet their criteria they will refer you to Care and Repair.

What will we do?

Upon the receipt of a referral we will come and visit you in your home to guide you through the process.  We will assist you with all the paperwork, help you select contractors, most of whom are local, request quotes and apply for grant funding, relieving you of any stress that may be associated with having works carried out at your home.  Although we are your intermediary, you will decide how to proceed and who carries out the work, we will always keep you informed of progress and be available to support you throughout the process.

What level of grant am I eligible for?

There are two levels of grant available – a 100% grant for those who are in receipt of a qualifying benefit, eg Income Support, Guaranteed Pension Credit, Income Related ESA and an 80% grant for everyone else, meaning you will be required to pay 20% of the works.  The works are exempt from VAT.  We are also able to assist you with trying to obtain charity funding.

Are there any other charges?

Yes, as we have to record the grant on the properties title deed, there is a £60 Registers of Scotland fee that you will be required to pay and is not grant eligible.  We will require a copy of your title deeds.

How is our service funded?

Care & Repair is funded by Dumfries & Galloway Council and D&G Health and Social Care Integrated Joint Board, delivering mandatory grant supported adaptations as part of the Council’s Scheme of Assistance.

Where are our offices?

We have offices in Dumfries and Stranraer, based out of Loreburn Housing Association’s offices.  We cover the whole of Dumfries and Galloway.
