Hundreds of children in Dumfries were entertained at a haunted Halloween house this Halloween. Clare Louise and Richard Nelson opened their doors to families in the Calside and Georgetown area as more than 300 dressed up children flocked to see what was inside the haunted house.
For the second year running, the family decorated the inside and outside of their house complete with Halloween characters who entertain children on the street. The project was conceived by Richard’s wife Clare Louise who wanted to do something to support the Macmillan nurses who have been visiting their home since Richard was diagnosed with incurable cancer.
One mother said, “the children were raving about this last year and it’s just brilliant that we got the chance to come back again. They were both scared out of their wits and excited in equal measure. It’s wonderful that this family have decided to make something so negative, positive for the whole community. I urge people to dip into their pockets and make a donation.”
The family have a JustGiving page and have already collected nearly £2,000 in donations. Anyone who wishes to make a donation or who was at the event and didn’t quite get to make a donation can do so by Clicking HERE.
Macmillan nurses are specialist nurses that work in different areas of cancer care and treatment. They work in hospitals, hospices and in the community and they have been supporting the young family over the last year.
