Wigtownshire WOMANS Group Win Community Grant

Three Wigtownshire community groups are celebrating being awarded one-off grants through the Killgalioch Community Fund.

The grants were awarded as part of Kilgallioch Community Benefit Company’s AGM, held in Glenluce Public Hall on the 25th of February.

Three community groups who had been the recipients of previous awards from the fund were invited to attend the AGM and give a presentation on their project and the impact of their work on the community. Company members then voted on the project they wished to support.

The winning group, awarded a grant of £1,000, was WOMANS – Women Of Minnigaff & Newton Stewart – who have been steadily transforming Newton Stewart and Minnigaff with plants and flowers thanks to the hard work of a committed group of volunteers. Group members also benefit from increased opportunities for friendship and companionship through their voluntary work.

Laura McGaw of WOMANS said, “The Group thanks the Kilgallioch Community Fund once again for their financial aid. This money will go towards the hanging baskets, planters and planting in Newton Stewart this summer and try to make the town beautiful for locals and visitors alike. It will also help us buy a few more grippers for our town litter pick.“

The two other groups invited to give talks were Aldouran Wetland Garden and the Stranraer Rotary Coastal Path Group who were each awarded £200 to contribute to their ongoing good works.
