A Journey of Flight Takes Audiences on a Mesmerising Exploration of Migration and Home

This April, take flight with A Journey of Flight, a mesmerising dance performance and accompanying workshops inspired by the beauty and complexity of the migration of birds. Created by Shetland-based Choreographer Kathryn Gordon, this immersive production blends choreography, live music and stunning visuals. As part of its Scottish tour, the performance lands at CatStrand from the 4th – 6th April, as part of Move South at the Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival.

A Journey of Flight

Take A Journey of Flight, an immersive 50-minute dance performance inspired by the migration of birds. Through mesmerising choreography, live music from Jenny Sturgeon and stunning projected visuals, the performance creates a thought-provoking journey of arrivals, departures, the nostalgia of place and the notion of flight itself. A Journey of Flight offers a visually captivating and thought-provoking experience that invites reflection and inspiration.

Set against a backdrop of flowing white sheets with visuals projected onto them, the dancers move through ever-changing spaces and explore the delicate balance between nature, movement and our emotional ties to place and each other. Attendees can become part of the performance with an optional audience participation segment, where you can craft your own paper aeroplane and set it soaring into the story. These personal and interactive moments deepen the connection to the journey, making it truly memorable.

Alongside the performance, audiences can take part in two engaging workshops, offering a chance to explore the themes of migration, flight and creativity in a hands-on way. Whether through crafting paper planes or expressing movement in dance, these workshops provide an accessible and enriching experience for all ages.
