Spring Fling bank holiday weekend event is a chance to visit the studios of 94 quality visual artists, craft makers and designers
The doors are being thrown open this weekend on a remarkable set of costumes created by one of Scotland’s most imaginative performers and designers.
Alex Rigg, who runs of Oceanallover, is known for his fantastical creations – which have featured in arts, dance and music events of all kinds from the Wickerman festival to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay.
Around 30 of his costumes, part of a collection created over the past decade, will be on show as part of Spring Fling – Scotland’s premier open studios art and craft event which takes place across Dumfries and Galloway from 28 to 30 May.
It is the first time Alex has ever opened his studios, which are just outside Moniaive, to the public.
Also on show at the same venue will be photography by his partner, the visual artist and performer Florencia Garcia Chafeun.

“It really underlines the diversity and quality of what visitors can enjoy in Spring Fling – with 94 painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, glassmakers, sculptors, printmakers and others opening their doors in every part of the region.”
Visitors to Alex Rigg’s studio on Saturday afternoon will also be able to see the Oceanallover company rehearsing for their latest performance.
Alex said: “People normally only get to see the costumes as part of a performance, and often from a distance, so we wanted to give them a chance to get up close.
“They often want to know about where the ideas come from – the latest ones are inspired by ancient Mongolian horsemen. So I’m really looking forward to being able to chat to people and answer their questions.”
