A new work from world renowned landscape artist Charles Jencks was unveiled on Sunday at at the Crawick Multiverse artland, near Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway.
The world-class artland, which was designed by Charles Jencks and funded by the Duke of Buccleuch, was celebrating its first birthday with a spectacular three day summer solstice festival with a celebration of art, science and music.
Charles Jencks designed the Crawick Multiverse, which is inspired by discoveries in cutting-edge cosmology, and his latest creation sits in the heart of the artland’s amphitheatre.
The mosaic – ‘Sun Flare / Earth Shield – represents the ‘dance of life and death’ between solar flares and the protective electromagnetism of the Earth.
The mosaic was unveiled by Royal Society of Edinburgh president Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell who represents the science element of the festival. She was joined by the Duke of Buccleuch; and artist, designer and performer Alex Rigg whose acclaimed theatrical dance company Oceanallover is performing at the Crawick Multiverse at the final day of the festival today.
