Following the success of last years ‘Past Shadows’ photographic exhibition hosted by The Usual Place, Dumfries, The CPA team are pleased to present an updated and expanded version of the work renamed ‘Dumfries Then and Now 2024’.
The purpose of this collection of images is to both not only jog hopefully good memories of buildings and places now gone but also to highlight some of the fantastic buildings and customs we still have which survive to the present day.
In some areas ‘change’ has included whole scale demolition, whereas in others it has been confined to simply aesthetics or repurposing. By merging the images as an overlay sometimes the changes are not visible until examined more closely or perhaps the location of the area is recognised by the viewer.
The vintage images also capture people, now long gone who are in most cases carrying out the same activities we all still do today; working, shopping, travelling or simply passing through the area as it was being photographed.
We hope you enjoy the images as much as we enjoyed preparing them for this display and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible soon.
