The Bakers Oven in Queensbury Square, Dumfries has been lit up since January as part of the D-Lux Festival of Light. The building has been turned into a video jukebox, which shows specially made 30-second films which have been made by the community of Dumfries who want to imagine a new future for the High Street.
The D-Lux Festival of Light were commissioned by the Midsteeple Quarter Project with support from DG Council to turn the former Bakers Oven building into a video jukebox which plays specially made 30 second films. The films, which have all been made by people living in Dumfries and beyond, are projected in the four bay windows of the building. After dark, viewers can in the square can select films online using their smart phones.
D-Lux Producer David Smith commented: “Whose Hoose has been a very popular addition to the town by bringing something new and dynamic to the High Street in the evenings. We have run several workshops over the last few months and we are pleased with the imagination that has been shown in the films produced.”
The Hoose will be running until Saturday 28th April, and will celebrate the end of the project with a special Awards Ceremony and Wrap Party on Thursday 26th April at the Stove Network. From 5.30pm, members of the public will be invited to find out the winning films in five categories: Best Performance, Best Animation, Best Film Which Met the Brief, Best Comedy and Most Innovative. After this, everyone will be invited to move onwards to the Bakers Oven to watch the winning films together in the square. The event is free and will run until 7.30pm.
