The sun shone on Catherine Street Inclusive Park in Dumfries this week to the benefit of those who do the ‘caring’ in our community. The Quilters of Shambellie House held a ‘quilt in the park’ day for carers.
Lisa Callander-Bone, Development Manager of Include Us, a charity which runs the inclusive play park said
“It’s so important that carers have the opportunity to recharge their own batteries and have time to themselves in order to carry on their caring role. Being able to meet others in a similar situation and enjoy time together is vital. Quilting together outdoors was just the tonic needed “.
Ann Hill, BEM, Chair of Shambellie Quilters said
“Shambellie Quilters were only too happy to set up a class for carers. We had great fun with lots of sewing, chatting about everything and nothing and just simply being together. Quilting takes your mind of things and takes you to a place of friendship, fulfilment, and achievement. The carers went away with a lovely bag which they had made and with the help of the quilters completed a beautiful wallhanging which will be exhibited at the D & G Quilt Festival which runs at Shambellie from 23rd September to 9th October.”
Jenny Henderson, a Trustee with Include Us said
“Ann and her team provided a wonderful, inclusive session. They were so generous and well prepared, everybody enjoyed it”.
