The acclaimed vocal ensemble Voskresenije come to St Andrew’s Church, Brooke Street, Dumfries, this week as part of their UK tour.
The ensemble from St Petersburg will sing a selection of sacred and secular music from their native Russia.
They are all internationally trained at the world class St Petersburg Conservatoire and conducted by musical director Jurij Maruk.
The choir was founded by Jurij in 1993 and consists of seven to 10 professional female and male vocalists. The repertoire includes Russian Sacred Music as well as folk music. The choir has recorded several CDs, including some specially composed arrangements of Burns songs by John McIntosh.
Their concert programme is in two parts: the first half will concentrate on sacred music by Rachmaninov, Tshesnokov and Saint-Saens and the second a series of (mainly) Russian folk songs, which allows each of the performers to provide a solo.
The concert takes place on Thursday, 5 November.
Tickets, £10 adults and £5 under 16, on sale now from St Andrew’s Church and the Midsteeple box office, Dumfries.
