Historic St. Michael’s Church Hosts Unique Art Exhibition ‘ The Last Supper’ This Easter

‘The Last Supper’ – Exhibition By Silvy Weatherall

St. Michael’s Church Dumfries 10-23rd April 2025

A powerful Easter Exhibition Comes to Historic St. Michael’s Church in Dumfries Featuring a Special Talk by the Artist, Silvy Weatherall.

This Easter season, Dumfries will host a globally acclaimed art exhibition as Silvy Weatherall’s The Last Supper arrives at St. Michael’s Church from 10th -23rd April 2025.

Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic painting, Weatherall’s exhibition takes a unique approach, reinterpreting the thirteen figures of Jesus and his disciples through sculptural busts made from broken ceramics. Using the ancient Japanese technique of Kintsugi, where shattered pieces are repaired with gold, these sculptures reflect the Easter message of brokenness, redemption and renewal.

Weatherall, who has strong ties to Dumfries, has exhibited internationally, making this a rare and exciting homecoming. This moving installation, originally shown in London, invites visitors to reflect on the fragility of the human experience and the hope of restoration – themes that resonate both in Da Vinci’s masterpiece and the Easter story.

Special Event – Artist Talk

To open this powerful exhibition, Silvy Weatherall will be giving a talk at St.

Michael’s Church on Thursday 10th April at 6 pm . Visitors will have the rare opportunity to hear from the artist herself about her creative journey, the inspiration behind the sculptures and the way they connect to both art history and faith.

A Celebration Of Art, Faith & Renewal

Set against the backdrop of Dumfries’ oldest church, this exhibition is not just for art lovers but for anyone reflecting on the meaning of Easter, the power of history and the beauty of transformation. St. Michael’s Church, with its deep local and national significance – including its connections to Robert Burns – provides the perfect setting for this contemplative and visually striking work.

Reverend Gary Peacock, Minister of St. Michael’s Church said: “The story of Easter is one of renewal, hope, and transformation. Silvy Weatherall’s work captures this message in a profound and beautiful way.

We are honoured to host this exhibition and invite everyone to experience its meaning for themselves.”
