Last night ( 25th of february) at St Andrews Primary School Dumfries , 8 Young people from several of the towns primary Schools took part in the ‘Dumfries Lady speakers annual speech making competition . This years tittle was ‘ A Book For Bed Time .’ and the children all gave their various talks on this subject !
The Competition has been ran by the Dumfries Lady Speakers for 10 years now , and has give many children a brilliant platform to show their skills at public speaking , this 2015 competition will be the last year the Ladies will be running the competition , though , as they hand the reigns over to the Dumfries Rotary Club , who have been event sponsors for many years now .
Congratulations to every child that entered the competition , 27 started , then that was cut down to eight for the final , of which the winner was 11 year old Maya Amber Johnston , from St Andrews primary ; 2nd place went to last years winner who also was winner of the Taylor Silver Cup for Humour for the second year running ; 3rd place Rebecca McNair; and Sophie Ritchie, winner of the brand new Silver Salver for best-researched speech.
the panel of Judges for the evening were Colin Grant, Director of Education, Dumfries & Galloway Council; Malcolm Johnstone, President of The Rotary Club of Dumfries; Andrea Thompson, editor of D&G Life Magazine , and Alive radio presenter; Enid Welch of Dumfries Lady-Speakers, they all had a very tough job indeed .

Thanks to Judge Andrea Thompson there will be a special feature in the Dumfries & Galloway Life and also a great chance for the children to have there speeches heard world wide when Maya, Cade, Rebecca and Sophie feature in a special programme on Alive 107.3 fm
