Fatal Road Crash: A74 (M) – Junction 21
Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road crash which took place on the A74 on Sunday 30 August 2015
At around 0600 hours, police and emergency services responded to reports of a car colliding with the column of a bridge on the A74 (M), southbound close to junction 21. Two men, aged 21 and 22, understood to be resident in the Oldham area, were pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance staff. Formal identification is still to take place.
The road was closed close at junction 21 to allow for police enquiry and recovery of the vehicle. Local diversions were in place and the road was reopened by police at around 1230 hours.
Police Sergeant Leigh McCulloch from the Dumfries and Galloway Trunk Road Policing Unit, said today:
“This was a serious road traffic incident which has resulted in the death of two men.
“Specialist officers continue to progress the enquiry to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and I would ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact the Road Policing Unit at Lockerbie via the 101 number with any information they may have.”
