52 YEAR OLD MAN DIES IN M74 VEHICLE CRASH NEAR LOCKERBIE

A 52 year-old man has died following a road crash involving two vehicles on the M74 near Lockerbie on Wednesday 5 August 2015.

Around 1650 hours on Wednesday 5 August 2015 a Vauxhall Combo van being driven by a 33 year-old man was involved in a crash with a Mercedes Actros articulated LGV near to junction 17 northbound on the M74 near to Lockerbie.

Emergency services attended and the 52 year-old man, who was a passenger in the Vauxhall van, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Vauxhall van was taken by ambulance to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh where he is being treated for his injuries. Hospital staff describe his condition as serious.

The driver and his male passenger in the Mercedes lorry were uninjured.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Peter Forsyth from the Road Policing Department in Lockerbie is urging any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information that may assist their investigation to contact Police Scotland on 101.
