On Friday 24th July 51 year old Liverpudlian Peter Adam Smith will roll out from Dumfries in South-West Scotland in a bid to break the Guinness record for cycling around the World and become the first cyclist in history to lap the planet in less than 100 days.
“This has been more than 12 months in the planning,” said Peter, “and suddenly we are just a couple of days away. The record was set by Alan Bate in 2010. But in addition to bettering his incredible 125 day mark, I am aiming to achieve something that will stand forever. To become the first under 100 days I will need to average more than 200 miles a day. It’s a tall ‘ask’ but we believe it can be done.”
Supported on the road by a multi-national team of three, Peter will ride through Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Australia, New Zealand and the USA in his bid to enter the record books.
