The Scottish SPCA is caring for a seven week old otter cub found orphaned recently in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway.
They were alerted when the female cub was discovered next to a road in Springholm on Sunday (24 July).
She is now being rehabilitated at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross, where she has been named Trickle.
Centre manager Colin Seddon said, “We think Trickle’s mother was likely moving location and has either dropped her or left her behind by accident.
“Trickle is taking milk from a bottle and is progressing well. Hopefully she will move onto solid food in a couple of weeks time and then we will just have to wait for another cub of a similar size to come in so they can be raised together and eventually be released.
“Otters usually remain in our care until they are at least a year old and are mature enough to fend for themselves in the wild.
“We encourage anyone who sees an otter cub or any other wild animal in distress to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999 for advice and assistance.”
