A group of regulars that meet at the White Hart: are getting together this weekend and doing a Zip, Nip, Hip and Rip for charity!
• Susan, the owner of The White Hart. Lost her mum to cancer.
• Jemma who works there. Lost her mum to cancer 20 years ago this year.
• Josey who is a regular. Worked in Mental Health for past 40 years. Is a member of Royal British Legion Scotland / Rider’s branch
• Laurie who lost his best friend ‘Crocp’ to cancer. Ex-serviceman
• William , barman and ex-service man
In 2006 The White Hart hosted a charity fundraiser for Macmillan, so for 2016 anniversary they wanted to go ‘Bigger and better’. To also raise funds locally 3 charities were chosen:
• The Alexandra Unit in Dumfries (DGRI) as the unit and staff helped care for both Jemma’s parents and Susan’s mother, ‘Crocp’, and Davy D. Davy was also a regular of The White Hart.
• Support in Mind Scotland, where Josey and Laurie work, as Mental Health is an important part of life that is often underfunded. Support in Mind Scotland aims to support and empower those affected by mental illness, including family members, carers and supporters.
• Royal British Legion Scotland/ Rider’s Branch, some of the regulars and members of staff are ex- service men. The Riders branch charity is called ‘Voices for veterans’ and helps to support service people affected by post-traumatic stress. They raise funds that are shared through many service related charities. Their common love of motorbikes, trikes and quads link them together.
The fundraising will take part over the weekend of 5th and 6th March 2016.
It has been called the ‘Zip, Nip, Hip and Rip’
Zip: a sponsored Zip Wire at Laggan Outdoor Centre. On the 5th March at 2pm.
Nip: into the White Hart for a cuppa, or Pint anytime over the weekend.
Hip: Listen to the live bands, at The White Hart, these start at 7pm ‘til late on Saturday and Sunday throughout the day. Poetry readings will be held on Sunday.
Rip: William Black, affectionately known as Blackie, has donated his hairy body for a sponsored waxing on Sunday 6th from 1pm onwards at The White Hart.
