Dumfries is set to take part in a national British Spring Clean thanks to the good work of volunteers, The People’s Project and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Dumfries has been undergoing a makeover over recent weeks, with volunteers setting to work on areas of Dumfries, including the Whitesands, which has seen litter picked, weeds removed, bricked areas cleaned and benches washed in a bid to keep Dumfries clean and tidy. The work links into the national Big Spring Clean Up, which aims to bring people together from across the country to clear up litter that blights towns, villages, countryside and coastlines across the UK.
Over half a million people are expected to be out in force with their litter pickers and gloves over the weekend of 3 to 5 March across Britain. The clear up in Dumfries is being managed by Dumfries Town Centre Ambassador Lorraine Wilson, who is funded through our Council and The People’s Project.
Provost of Dumfries, Councillor Ted Thompson is full of enthusiasm for the event. He said;
“The clean-up that’s already taken place in parts of the town has made a huge difference. Littering is a mindless act, and our Council is committed to carrying out days of action across the region to tackle this problem. That notwithstanding, I must commend the superb work of the volunteers who’ve been working their fingers to the bone, in their own time, to make the town cleaner over recent weeks. The British Spring Clean is a wonderful nationwide initiative, and I am glad that our town in taking part.”
