A TOTAL of 111 new positive COVID-19 cases were recorded in Dumfries and Galloway in the week ending February 14.
This marked a drop from 139 new cases in the previous week, but still meant that new cases of COVID-19 are being identified across the region.
Interim Director of Public Health Valerie White said: “Increased testing capacity is coming online within Dumfries and Galloway, which means that people who do not have symptoms will be able to be tested via the mobile testing units.
“It’s vital that we keen on top of the situation, and keep bringing the new case numbers down. We would ask everyone to remain vigilant and immediately take action to self-isolate along with their household and arrange to be tested if they experience any of the following symptoms: Increased temperature, new continuous cough and change to or loss of sense of taste and/or smell.”
As a result of the new cases identified in the week ending February 14, 227 people were identified as close contacts and advised to self-isolate – down from 311 the week before.
The number of tests taking place had increased to 4482 from 3718 the previous week.
And the locally calculated positivity rate for Dumfries and Galloway is estimated at about 2.8 per cent, down from 4.2 per cent the week before.
As at 11/02/2021, the overall seven day positivity rate was at 89.3 per 100,000, whereas the week ending 04/02/2021 was 95.4.
Positive COVID-19 cases are present across all four locality areas in Dumfries and Galloway.
There is evidence of wide community transmission across the region, and evidence that people identified as close contacts of cases are developing COVID-19.
Workplace settings and car sharing are areas where transmission is being seen.
